LABORATORY PROCEDURES FOR MICROORGANISMS

REFERENCE NO.: M/1998/2.04

TITLE: STORAGE OF ORIGINAL MATERIAL OF DEPOSITED STRAINS

Original culture material of a deposited strain should be maintained at least until after positive controls of permanent preservation methods. When appropriate, few straws or alternatively glass capillaries with material from the original culture received may be frozen in liquid nitrogen.

Great care must be taken to ensure as far as possible the originality of the cultures. Therefore, strains deposited are preserved with a minimum number of transfers. The type of the preservation method depends on the organism.
